2009 Volkswagen Tiguan - The Wall Street Journal

Volkswagen-2009-Tiguan-Reviewed.jpg

A review of the compact 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV has been posted over at The Wall Street Journal. 'If you're wondering what "Tiguan" means, consider that it's an improvement over Touareg, the name of the company's big, truckish SUV. And before you get too down on the notion of mating a tiger with an iguana, consider that the nomenclature is about the cleverest thing VW has done here. The company appears to have hashed together this generic-looking vehicle out of parts from the company's Jetta and Passat lines. (The blueprint for this car class was drawn up by Toyota over a decade ago when it introduced its RAV4 compact SUV.) Everything about the Tiguan is stock-in-trade, from VW's near-ubiquitous 2.0-L turbocharged four-cylinder engine to the snazzy interior trimmings for which the brand is known.'

VW Informant:

I think the Journal's review is a bit one sided. The majority of the criticism is laid on the styling (which i think is considerably better than the other crossovers available) and the lack of innovation in its features. The thing is, the car didn't set out to reinvent the wheel, it's just doing it better than everyone else.
